Over 4 years ago I stopped paying a few creditors due to lack of employment and a messy relationship. I consulted a Bankruptcy attorney after 2 years had gone by and he told me that if they do not try to collect within 4 years of the last time I last paid my bill with them, they could not collect in CA.





So I was looking into a family law case that was closed a few years ago and I noticed that there were other case numbers under my name....seems 2 of those creditors have filed against me back in January, but I have received nothing.

Assuming you have not changed your place of residence then you should have been served court papers about the lawsuit.





If you moved and did not leave a forwarding address at the post office, they probably put a notice in the newspaper in the town where you were last listed as living. The legal notice is all they needed since they could not find you.





What you should do? If your circumstances have resolved and you can pay your debt, then pay the debt before a ton of legal costs get added to it.
